Not For Everyone?

WHY YOU WOULD LIKE ANCHOR . . .

You can join good friends and fellow hypocrites who are trying to follow Jesus and love the people around us.  Good people, music, company, laughs, and most important, Jesus.  It's inspiring.

We are committed to teaching the Bible and serious about worshipping God.  We love the people of God and the people who aren't yet his people.  We won't make you feel uncomfortable.  If you want to check out what we're doing, we won't force you to agree with beliefs or practices you don't embrace.

We will be good hosts to you.  We hope you will feel welcomed.

REASONS WHY ANCHOR WILL NEVER BE A CHURCH FOR EVERYONE . . .

We don't promote the Religious Right, we don't equate "Christian" and "American."  We wear t-shirts to church.  Sometimes we don't shave before church.  We like nose rings and tattoos.

We don't boycott Harry Potter.  But we do boycott multi-level marketing, "networking" schemes that use the church as marketplace, and Christian "Pharisees."

We don't speak in tongues in church.  At least, we haven't yet.  But we do speak about money.

We like good food and good drink, including strong coffee and imported ales (Belgian, preferably).  Ben Franklin famously quipped, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."  If there were only soda, there would be more atheists.

We like a good cigar once in a while, especially to accompany a friendly poker game.  We think that Jesus' followers should be able to handle their liberty in moderation.

While Vegas is truly "sin city" you won't automatically go to hell if you're playing the slots when Jesus returns.  We think Christians (the ones who can handle it) should go to bars and anywhere else honest sinners are, to be salt and light among them.  XXXChurch gives away "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" Bibles at porn conventions.  They build relationships with the broken people in the porn industry to help them find the way out.

We let our kids trick-or-treat on Halloween, we listen to secular music, go to R-rated movies, read R-rated sections of the Bible, and honor a redemptive story wherever it may be found.  We spend lots of time with irreligious people, because that's what we used to be.

We believe that a Christian man should step up and be godly man, find a faithful Christian girl, marry her, have a bunch of kids and/or adopt some, work hard, honor the truth, and "swear to his own harm" when necessary.

We think dating is for marriage, not for sex or recreation.

We aspire to be faithful to the Bible and culturally relevant.  We don't pretend that we've got it all figured out.  We desire to be God-obsessed, Jesus-addicted, Bible-saturated, prayer-dependent, loving people.  We make a lot of mistakes.  We're always growing . . .
