Since the Garden of Eden, humanity was called as Male and Female to serve and steward God's earth well (Genesis 1:28; 2:15). Humanity fell into sin, and although it began to cultivate a culture, it has not always been God honoring, and has not always been stewarded well.
Stewardship includes stewarding the environment, as well as taking care of the things He has given us to use like our time, talents and treasure. This is seen in Jesus' parable of the Talents (Matthew 25). He expects us to multiply what He has given us, and to use our talents to His honor.
Our motivation for stewarding well are twofold: First, God has given us everything we have, because He is the ultimate owner of everything; and secondly, Jesus gave everything He had for our salvation. When Paul wanted to motivate the Corinthians to give to his mission, he reminded them when he wrote in 2 Corinthians 8:9,
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich."
It is because of this that we are to give back to God. Paul goes on to teach in chapters 8+9 that we are do so sacrificially, as God has put on your heart, and with a cheerful heart, knowing what Christ has done for us.
Thanks so much for your generosity toward Anchor's mission, it is appreciated!
