Welcome to our website! We hope you find it informative and helpful!
Our worship gathering begins at 10:35 and meets at Minnie Gant Elementary, 1854 Britton Drive, Long Beach, CA 90815.
Our Ministry Philosophy
No church is perfect since it is made up of imperfect people. Anchor is no different. We are a simple community of faith, working toward excellence, but not extravagance in advancing the Kingdom of God. Our desire is to glorify God in everything we do (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Our programs at Anchor are at a minimum, because we believe the church (The People) are an organic body that meets each others needs by being in relationship together and applying the gospel in each of our lives, and loving one another well enough to speak truthfully and lovingly, while bearing one another’s burdens whether those burdens are spiritual, physical or emotional (Galatians 6:2). We do not believe that the church's role is to provide religious goods and services for individuals to consume, but is a family that serves one another, and works out tensions through repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation.
Anchor is striving for Excellence not Extravagance in three distinct Kingdom Value Areas of Inward, Upward and Outward.
Inward-Upward-Outward (Our Strategy)
Inwardly, we desire to love and serve one another by meeting together and with wisdom, speaking grace, truth and love into each others lives.
Upwardly, we desire to know and love God, by being learners of His word, and gathering weekly to hear His word preached and applied to our lives.
Outwardly, we desire to bless and love those in our communities and in our world, by knowing them well, and coming alongside to love and serve those in need.
Acts 2:42-47 as A Model of Healthy Church
They were devoted to
- The Apostles teachings (The Word of God)
- To Fellowship (The Participation in the Gospel)
- The Breaking of Bread and Prayer (Worship)
- Proclamation of the Gospel (Evangelism) “…the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved”
Gatherings We meet on Sunday Mornings so that we can worship God. We then scatter as missionaries throughout the week for fellowship, the word, and to encourage one another toward love and good deeds as a witness of what God has done for us and in us (Hebrew 10:24-25; Acts 1:8; 2:42-46; 5:42).
Youth We have classes for our children up to 5th grade. Our aim is to come along side and serve families helping them to be the front line spiritual guides for their children. While we have a solid curriculum, we believe that theological training comes from the parents. After 5th grade, we believe our children can and should become part of the life of the church. We hope to have programs during the week in the future for our youth, but they would be led like any of our MC groups with the same purposes.
Missional Communities (MC’s) Missional Communities are groups of about 4-12 missionary/servants who have covenanted together as a community to reach a particular community for Christ through their devotion to Jesus, one another and a desire to love and serve their city.
DNA Groups Are triads of same sex groups designed to meet every few weeks to encourage one another to live out the implications of the gospel in all areas of their lives
Band of Brothers exists to develop strong bonds among brothers (Single and Married), and encourage one another to become more like Jesus in how we live, parent, work, etc.
Women’s Ministry We believe in enabling women--whether single or married--to follow Jesus and flourish in their relationships, marriages, careers, ministry and education.
Marriage Builders Periodically we have studies that help strengthen our marriages and parenting skills. It's usually a time of fellowship and instruction and dialogue.
