Building A Godly Legacy
Today, we are taking a look at the Legacy of 2 women in the bible, and how their simple devotion to the Lord raised a son that honored God with his life.
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well 2 Timothy 1:5
In our time, there is so much pressure on moms to be perfect and to do everything the culture, especially the Christian culture expects moms to do. Whether you choose to be a stay at home mom, or a working mom, you can't seem to live up to the expectations the culture and the Church puts on young moms.
In our passage today, we see 2 women, who have a simple devotion to the God of the bible, and we see the result of their son Timothy, who, himself is not perfect, but has grown up to love God, and desires to serve Him. The passage doesn't tell us too mush of the "How To's" of being a good mom, it just mentions one important reality shared by the 2 women; A "Sincere Faith." They simply lived their lives imperfectly being faithful to the God they believed, and because their simple faith was real, it stuck with their son Timothy.
It seems they set their priority on the word, taught it to their children, and lived out the implications the best that they could. There really is no formula, just a simple love for God and His word.
So my prayer on this Mother's Day, is for our mothers to rest in their Lord, and know that they too can imperfectly live out their faith, and trust in a good God to shape the hearts of their children.
We can believe that, because we too our children, and our Father is a loving God, that continues to use life to shape our hearts, and He demonstrated it by putting His own life on the line to protect our hearts from the destructive path it was intending.
